this profile tells me nothing about u, u might as-well be a bot (no shade i've been there too). u need to standout and the best way is to be yourself, show yourself and share ur music together. were real people and we want to connect with others (online). u might say but my beats are fire and i just want to post my music, that's great but chances are most won't even listen before dismissing u. especially when ur first starting out.
2. make content
there's infinite styles of content u could post. i know a lot of u want to avoid this all together but that would be a fatal error. by posting content u get ur name out there, which is crucial for networking. think of ur content as doing the networking for u. it's literally in the word ("NET-WORKING" catch peoples attention with ur work).
there's many types of content u could make that require different things/skills. for example u could curate kits, like lunch77. he curated sounds for kits and posted them under his name. he didn't have to show himself, speak, or edit.
or u could simply screen-record ur beats and post them.
regardless of the style u choose, the most important part is to stay consistent, and get ur work scene.
3. prioritize ur work (not networking)
this might sound like it defeats the purpose but trust me it doesn't. when u focus on ur work (beats & content) others will find u. even if they don't reach out, once u dm them, they'll likely have seen ur name somewhere. leading to a much higher chance of them replying.
4. build mutuals (with ppl u want to work with)
mutuals are very important, they show others that ur in the scene. in a sense that u are on the same page and keeping up with others in their circle. this creates community. mutuals show that u are worth following/responding to. its social proof.
5. show genuine interest (when reaching out)
if u have a low following & no mutuals with little to offer besides loops. a great way of reaching out, is to show genuine interest in whatever the other producer is working on. ask interesting questions, and try ur best to provide some value in return. sometimes just asking good questions is enough. this helps the other person clarify their own ideas for themselves, creating enough value for them to return the favour down the road.
6. don't be thirsty
building on the last point, say u do get the reply to something completely unrelated to working together, knowing when to send loops, is an art form (especially the more established the other producer is). rushing this could sour the relationship and make u come of as fake. don't be thirsty just being able to talk to them is more than enough; until the opportunity presents itself to work with them. IT WILL!
7. don't rely on others for ur success!
early in my producer journey my mindset was—if this producer uses my loops, i'll get a placement. placement=success. so i thought all i had to do was send out loops and sit back for the day that one of them land. unfortunately that never happened the way i imagined and i spent countless years passively waiting.
i say this to push u towards action, ur in control of ur success. don't wait on others approval or permission to take ur journey into ur own hands. do what u can, and if u do that well more will come ur way.
networking is all about having/knowing something valuable, that could be mutually beneficial, a lot of producers don't take this serious enough or understand this. thats why its always the same boring dm "yo bro lets work".. u dont get a job, just by saying i want this job. NO. you first have to sell yourself and ur skills to the employer. ur instagram profile and ur content is ur digital resume, so take it serious!
unfortunately, just having loops to send isn't (on its own) enough anymore. u need to stand out, so work to the point where the opportunities come to u.
i hope this broader view at networking gives u a different perspective, it's a bit deeper than just go here, do this, and boom your 2x platinum. but try this for yourself and see what works best for u.
